Curious to see what will set Dixie Cream apart from the other donut havens in Riyadh, we paid a visit to Dixie Cream. According to their website, Dixie Cream has been around for over 80 years – that’s a long time churning out donuts. On arrival we were a little surprised to find most of their trays empty, perhaps this was a good thing, and a sign of high demand. We bought a box of 8 assorted donuts. Unlike the other donut shops, Dixie Cream stack their donuts side-by-side and standing, a nice touch if you dont mind toppings getting transferred to other donuts too.

As for the taste test… unfortunately, there was little here that made Dixie Cream donuts differ from others in town. Though fluffy and sweet, there wasn’t anything sensational here to set them apart. The strawberry icing was a little too sweet for my liking, and the cinnamon with apple filling donut didn’t quite hit the mark. In contrast their glazed donut was pretty good.

There also does not seem to be a separate family entrance at this outlet, which we hope will be remedied soon. If you’re passing by Tahlia, give them a try, and let us know what you thought below by leaving us your review!

Another donut place! What could be so different? These were our thoughts as we passed by Dixie Cream shop on Tahlia Street. Curiosity won and we entered to find out. Dixie Cream looks inviting and somewhat modern inside than its competitors.

First off I must say that entering this place as a woman was one of the most awkward moments I have experienced in a while. The place did not have a sign outside the door for either singles or family so it was unclear what clientele was allowed inside. Typically for donut places, it was full of males and I was the only female which made me feel unwelcome. The long disapproving stares from customers and the salesmen confirmed my presence was not wanted.

I was determined to try the donuts out and tried to ignore the awkward silence that fell inside Dixie Cream. The uneasy salesman gave us a few samples of their most popular vanilla donut holes, which was actually a crispy and delightful treat.

Unfortunately many of the shelves were empty, and some of my favorite flavors were not available. We came in late in the evening although it was not nearly closing time yet.

Nevertheless we ordered a dozen different kinds and sizes. I was thrilled to have some new options to choose from such as a raspberry or blueberry filled donut and the lemon swirl looked really delicious.

Because of the seating issues we took our goodies home to enjoy. To my great disappointment many of the donuts had smashed into each other during the transfer because they had been placed side by side in the box. The lemon swirls had come off and rubbed into another donut. I tried to scrape it back onto the right donut to no avail, the frosting was too sticky. This resulted in a mixed tasting experience, with one donut having two different frostings on it.

Despite this mishap, the donuts were overall good, but some were really sweet. The raspberry filled powdered donut was heavenly! Another favorite was the Bear Claw. Although the donuts were all soft and moist, there is just no comparison to the fluffiness of Krispy Kreme donuts. Dixie Cream can make it to the top three of donut shops in Riyadh, but for me the first position holder remains clear and unchallenged.
