You know how you’re always in the lookout for something new when it comes to food in a new place that you overlook the more obvious choices? That’s what I felt when I tried Pizza Inn again after quite some time. It was one of the first few pizza chains I tried in Saudi Arabia but I went searching for new ones that I put it in the back of my mind only to come back after a few months. Or yeah, years. It’s not that Pizza Inn is not good. It’s just not a slice above the rest.
Pizza Inn originated from Dallas, Texas in the 1960s. The United Food Company brought it to Saudi Arabia in 1996 and branches all over Middle East followed suit. It became known for their first hand, made-from-scratch crispy, crackery original thin crust pizza and tangy signature sauce. It’s their sauce that I quite remember well because it’s the kind of sauce I avoid in a pizza. Of course, I just owe this to my taste buds which grew accustomed to everything slightly sweet. That’s why I always go for Hawaiian pizza when I order because no matter how sour or savory the tomato sauce is, there’s still the pineapple bits that lend sweetness to it.
I was not disappointed with the Hawaiian of Pizza Inn. The pan is warm and chewy, the cheese slightly gooey and needed a little tugging, and the sauce is rich and tasty. The Chicken Fajita in thin crust is a little bit bland. I didn’t even know where the fajita flavor went. The olives, green peppers, and onions overpowered the dry chicken, I guess. The thin crust though is true to their claim: crispy and crunchy. With the melted cheese, I enjoyed munching on it. Pizza Inn also offers fresh greens and hearty dressings in their Salad Bar but I didn’t get a chance to try this so I can’t comment here. But if you ask me about their chicken wings, they’re good but not amazing.
The interiors of the branch in Dabab we visited is a little bit dark and would benefit from more light. Dining booths have curtains for extra privacy. The waiters were friendly and attentive to our orders. Overall Pizza Inn is a fast, affordable comfort food that is readily available across Riyadh.Pizza Inn,
